
To celebrate these significant milestones, Winnipeg School Division students collaborated with renowned Inuit artist, Goota Ashoona to create an artwork celebrating Nuliajuk, the Inuit creator of animals. Taking inspiration from the traditional story and various artworks depicting Nuliajuk, students created stencils and prints of animals to encircle a unique representation of her created by Goota Ashoona that features a pitseolak (sea pigeon in Inuktitut) emerging from Nuliajuk’s hair as a special tribute to Goota’s artist-grandmother, Pitseolak Ashoona.
