Discover hand building, which includes slab building, slump molded forms, and throwing on the potter’s wheel.

From basic thrown or hand-built forms you’ll create mugs, bowls, and platters. You’ll also learn glazing and decorating techniques to finish your work and develop your own ideas related to functional and non-functional forms.

Clay, glaze, and related firing costs are included in the class fee.

Please note there will be no class on Aug 13 to allow clay to dry for bisque firing.
Clay works will be glaze fired, and available for pickup approximately 2-4 weeks after classes commence. Pickup date(s) will be emailed to participants when the pieces are ready.

Registration for Summer 2024 classes will open May 29 at noon!

Sage Wednesday

Sage Wednesday (they/them/it) is a queer, transgender ceramic artist based in Winnipeg, MB. They have completed their BFA with a focus in Ceramics and Printmaking at the University of Manitoba, and are currently completing a Bachelors in Art History at the University of Manitoba.

Wednesday combines graphic illustrations and bright colours with functional ceramics through printmaking on clay. The functional crafted object that exists in the home and daily ritual of the user creates a unique experience that is drastically different than work that exists on the wall.  This subversion is paralleled in the imagery Wednesday uses on the surface of their pots, which pulls influence from traditional tattoo illustration, early uses of print media, and visual design elements of underground music culture.

Through its ceramic practice, Wednesday focuses on the creation of community around and through the usage of functional objects.
