Summer Camp Director – Young Canada Works

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to Indigenous Ways & Learning, the Indigenous Camp Director is the primary position for the WAG’s Summer Camps, and is responsible for logistics, program design, and facilitation of the WAG’s Summer Art Camps. The ideal candidate for the Indigenous Camp Director position is an energetic and organized student who is currently enrolled in university or college. Due to the Indigenous content and programming central to this year’s summer camps, Indigenous applicants will be given preference and are highly encouraged to apply. Applicants must be available all weekdays during the duration of the assignment, from June 10 to August 28, 2023.

Classification: Out of Scope – $22/hour, 35 hours/week

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinating logistics relating to the camp
  • Working with staff to design age-appropriate art activities for the camps that adhere to the camp theme
  • Researching destinations of off-site excursions for the afternoon part of the camps that link to the camp theme
  • Managing budget, supplies, and weekly schedule of programs for the art camps
  • Training and managing Camp volunteers and staff
  • Working with the other staff involved in the camps in a leadership role (volunteers, camp counsellors)
  • Assisting the camp artist(s) as they lead camp participants, and support camp councillors as they facilitate activities
  • Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the children at all times
  • Completing the annual evaluation of the program at its end
  • Other duties as required

Job Requirements

  • Experience coordinating programs and working with children is valued
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Clean criminal record/child abuse registry check (can be processed via WAG-Qaumajuq)
  • Experience and a passion for the visual arts are assets
  • Must be organized and a good listener
  • Patience and the ability to balance competing demands
  • Knowledge of French is an asset
  • Skills in Microsoft Office Word and Excel are required
  • Must be returning to school in fall 2024, and be under the age of 30, as per the requirements of Young Canada Works.
