Summer Camp Counsellor – Term: July 8 – August 26

JOB SUMMARY

Assists with organizing and facilitating all activities related to Camp programs.  Provide a high-quality, professional, and fun experience for day camp participants. Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers in their care.

Reports to: Camp Director and Indigenous Ways and Learning Coordinator

Department: Indigenous Ways and Learning

Classification: Term (July 8-August 26) – $16.30/hour, up to 35 hours/week

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervision of children attending camp.
  • Facilitation of the camp programming provided by the Camp Director and the Indigenous Ways and Learning Department.
  • Ability to think critically and respond appropriately in high-stress situations.
  • Check the Identification of Parents picking up and dropping off campers.
  • Coordinating with personnel to provide a safe and healthy camp environment.
  • Ensuring clear communication and expectations between WAG-Qaumajuq, campers and parents/guardians/adults responsible when it comes to Camp protocols and schedules.
  • Learning and facilitating the itinerary & schedule that the campers will be engaging in each day.
  • Efficiently setting up and cleaning up each workshop.
  • Facilitating each activity with care, compassion, and respect. (Under the guidance of the Camp Director and in collaboration with any visiting artists or volunteers.)
  • Ongoing performance expectations relating to equity and anti-racism, including ongoing education, confrontation of personal biases, application of the anti-racism policy and equitable decision-making.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

• Child abuse registry check. (can be processed via Gallery)
• Experience working with children.
• Excellent communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to adhere to a schedule and maintain time management expectations.
• Demonstrated ability to accomplish complex projects successfully.
• Experience with and a passion for the visual arts are assets.
• Must be reliable, organized and a good listener.

ADDITIONAL ASSETS

• First aid certification.
• Familiarity with Indigenous knowledge/ways of knowing, stories, and protocol.
• Ability to speak French.
• Post secondary education in fine art or art history.
• Problem solving skills.
