Thursday, April 21, 2016 to Friday, May 6, 2016
Gallery Shop presents Maureen Watchorn Landscapes, a collection of Watchorn’s work from 2008 to 2016.
Maureen studied graphic design in Watford, England. She obtained an honors degree in English Literature from the University of Toronto. Upon moving to Winnipeg, she took several courses at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. At this time Maureen met Aliana Au and in 1983 she was invited to share studio space with her. They have jointly shared four studio exhibitions as well as an exhibition at the Winnipeg Centennial Concert Hall. In 2003 Maureen held her first solo show at the Pavilion Gallery in Winnipeg. This was followed by an open studio in 2010 and an art show at Warehouse ArtWorks in 2014. This year she will be showing her work at the WAG as well as the Buhler Gallery.
“Landscape has always been an integral part of my work. From the cliffs and valleys of Journey to the Spirit World to Madonna in the Garden of Eden, the external landscape has been reflected in my paintings and drawings. Ten years ago, I decided to focus on the complexity of color, form and beauty of the prairies. The skyscapes are as magnificent as the landforms and both are unique in their endless variety. My love of gardening and long experience with the Lake Winnipeg basin have forever influenced my artistic expression.”
Artist’s Reception: Apr 21, 6-9pm
