Family Sunday: Take a Stroll Through Paris at the WAG

See two Impressionist exhibitions for $20/family

Winnipeg, Manitoba, August 9, 2018: Take your family on a Parisian adventure at the Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG) this Sunday with a fun-filled afternoon inspired by Summer with the Impressionists. For less than half the regular admission price, families will enjoy viewing Manitoba’s first major Impressionist show, painting en plein air on the WAG rooftop, drawing a ballet dancer just like Degas, and taking part in an exciting scavenger hunt inside the exhibition galleries!

This edition of Family Sunday is themed to Summer with the Impressionists, a spectacular showcase that’s engaging for all ages. Only on view at the WAG until September 9, the Impressionists are some of the most beloved artists of all time: Mary Cassatt, Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Pierre Auguste Renoir, and more. Come see their amazing artwork while you still can!

What to see and do:
     • Painting en plein air: Head up to the WAG rooftop to paint outdoors, just like the impressionists did
     • Draw à la Degas: Be inspired by posing ballerinas from RWB School
     • Make a tutu: Use a variety of fabrics including tulle to make your own tutu
     • Dance steps: Learn a few ballet steps from a RWB instructor (2:30-3:30pm)
     • Scavenger hunt: Search through Summer with the Impressionists with visual clues and win a prize
     • WAG front ramp: Come pop bubbles streaming from our industrial bubble machine and make a paintbrush-like ribbon stick  (FREE activity)
     • Admission includes entry to Summer with the Impressionists, featuring French Moderns: Monet to Matisse, 1850-1950 from the Brooklyn Museum in New York and The Impressionists on Paper presented in collaboration with the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa; plus all current WAG exhibitions

When and how much:
     • Sunday, August 12, 1-4pm
     • $20/family (up to 2 adults or 4 children under 18), less than half regular price!
     • FREE for WAG members and children under 6
