CRAFTED: Show + Sale Back by Popular Demand

Quilts and pillowcases support local child and teen patients

Winnipeg, Manitoba, October 6, 2016: Craft artists and the Winnipeg Art Gallery are preparing for the second-annual CRAFTED: Show + Sale, a one-of-a-kind celebration of all things handmade. Presented in partnership with Manitoba Craft Council and Nunavut Arts and Crafts Association, the two-day juried show and sale on October 28 and 29 features craft at the Gallery; highlights over 50 artists from Manitoba and Nunavut; presents four DIY workshops; and incorporates a philanthropic component that ensures the handmade becomes the hand given.

More than 3,500 browsed, bought, mingled, and learned at last year’s inaugural CRAFTED event. Over $35,000 was raised to support craft artists through initiatives that promote their art form at the WAG, and artists' combined sales exceeded $100,000.

Among this year’s juried artists is fibre artist Victoria Kakuktinniq from Iqaluit, Nunavut. “CRAFTED is a great venue to feature my leather and fur pieces that mix traditional cultural design and modern fashion. It’s my passion and I’m excited to share them at this event,” comments Kakuktinniq.

Experience the pleasure of making something beautiful with your own hands and sign up for DIY workshops where you can learn fly tying, beading, calligraphy, and paper marbling. All led by artist instructors, workshops are $50 (plus kit fee, if applicable) and pre-registration is required at

“CRAFTED: Show + Sale celebrates creativity by marrying art, craft, and heart. We are excited to feature exceptional artisans offering an array of workshops that engage the creative gene in each of us,” says Hennie Corrin, who co-chairs the event with Joyce Berry. “Once again, this event unites our community with philanthropy as talented and generous quilters donate customized quilts and pillowcases for young patients.”

In the spirit of last year’s yarn storm, which saw the WAG covered in scarves that were then donated to Chase the Chill in support of those in need, handmade quilts and pillowcases will be displayed during CRAFTED 2016. After the event, they will be given to children and teens at CancerCare Manitoba Foundation and the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.

CRAFTED will take place on Friday, October 28 from noon until 9pm and Saturday, October 29 from 11am until 5pm at the WAG, 300 Memorial Boulevard. Tickets are just $5 per day and free for kids under 12. New this year, entry includes admission to WAG galleries. Tickets are available online or at the door.
