WAG Makes Dalí Part of the Holidays

The Winnipeg Art Gallery invites the public to include Dalí in holiday plans. Whether on your own or with family and friends, it's a great time to see the outstanding exhibitions now showing at the WAG.

The Gallery is open Tuesday–Thursday, 11am-5pm; Friday, 11am-9pm; and Saturday–Sunday, 12pm-5pm. The Gallery closes at 2pm, December 24 and is closed December 25. Regular hours apply to December 26 (11am-9pm) and January 1 (11am-5pm).

Dalí Up Close reveals the Dali who worked ceaselessly, while crafting a fantastic and memorable public persona. The show includes paintings, watercolours, drawings, jewellery, and sculpture by the Surrealist master, as well as the celebrated photographs produced with Philippe Halsman.

Masterworks from the Beaverbrook Art Gallery features an uncompromising selection of international paintings by such artists as Gainsborough, Turner, Sargent, Carr, Thomson, Freud, and more. A highlight is Salvador Dalí's monumental Santiago El Grande. Dalí and Beaverbrook close January 31, 2015.

Over 20,000 visitors viewed the Dalí Up Close and Masterworks from the Beaverbrook Art Gallery exhibitions since they opened and a rush is anticipated as the shows come to a close in the new year.

Also on view: Brian Jungen’s Vienna, a majestic whale skeleton made out of white plastic patio chairs that explores the intersection and fluid boundaries between Indigenous and Western cultures; the 2014 Sobey Art Award, featuring the latest work by some of the country’s brightest young artists; a selection of spectacular carvings by twelve Inuit artists in Baker Lake Carvers; and the Collection on View, spanning 400 years from the Renaissance and Baroque through to the 20th century.

Admission is: Member $4, Adult $18, Senior/Student $14, Family (up to 2 adults and 4 children under 18) $46, Children 5 and under are free.
