Amber Epp Launches WAG's Jazz under the Rooftop Season

WINNIPEG, MB, September 21, 2009: The Winnipeg Art Gallery’s Jazz under the Rooftop winter season kicks off on Saturday, October 3 as vocalist, pianist, and percussionist Amber Epp performs “Songs of Live, Loss, and Laughter”. With her agile voice, her pleasure in improvising, and her fluency in a broad range of jazz stylings, Amber Epp can hold an audience spellbound. She brings her creativity and infectious energy to every performance—and audiences respond in kind.

Over the past two years, Epp has been making her mark on the Winnipeg music scene, performing with the city’s top musicians, as a sideman, and more recently as leader. The Amber Epp Quartet, consisting of Keith Price on guitar, Julian Bradford on bass, and Curtis Nowasad on drums, bring fresh energy to old standards and original repertoire, performing at Winnipeg’s major jazz events. Epp is a member of Papa Mambo and performs regularly with Brazilian musician Marco Castillo and Mozambiquan musician Casimiro Nhussi with whom she is collaborating on a record of original African-Canadian music. She has been a featured artist with the Ron Paley Big Band and Steve Kirby’s Oceanic Jazz Orchestra and made her debut with the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra this past spring.

The WAG’s Jazz under the Rooftop continues on November 15 with Glenn Buhr and Martha Brooks and on January 16 with the Ron Paley Big Band.

Tickets: WAG member $17 • Senior $18 • Student $18 • Adult $19 • Available in person at the WAG, online at, or through Ticketmaster. Includes Gallery admission the day of the concert.
