WAG Symposium Explores German Expressionism

Winnipeg, MB, October 5, 2013: The Winnipeg Art Gallery will be holding an international symposium on German Expressionism on Friday, November 15, from 9am to 4pm. Admission is $55 for WAG members, $75 for adults, and $40 for students. There is also a $15 lunch option. Registration form available at wag.ca.

The symposium is held in conjunction with the WAG exhibition Storm and Spirit: The Eckhardt-Gramatté Collection of German Expressionist Art (Sept 20-Dec 8) which pays tribute to the Eckhardt-Gramatté Foundation’s gift to the WAG of its holdings of German and Austrian Expressionist art.

Storm and Spirit: Symposium on German Expressionist Art explores aspects of German Expressionism from 1900 to 1925. It features a keynote address by Dr. Christian Weikop, Chancellor’s Fellow of Art, University of Edinborough, and a specialist in modern and contemporary German art. Speakers include Dr. Anabelle Kienle Ponka, Assistant Curator of European and American Art, National Gallery of Canada; Dr. Ihor Holubiszky, Senior Curator, McMaster Museum of Art; Dr. Oliver Botar, Professor of Modern Art History, University of Manitoba; and Andrew Kear, WAG Curator of Historical Canadian Art.
