The Winnipeg Art Gallery has announced that, due to its enormous success, the 100 Masters: Only in Canada exhibition, originally scheduled to close on August 18, has been extended until Labour Day, September 2. Previously extended Gallery hours have now been expanded even further to accommodate visitors. The Gallery will also be open on Labour Day (9am to 5pm), the final day of the exhibition.

Hours of operation for the WAG and the Gallery Shop until the close of the exhibition:
Monday, Tuesday: 11am-5pm
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday: 11am-9pm
Sunday: 10am-6pm
Monday, September 2: 9am-5pm

Hours of operation for Storm Bistro until the close of the exhibition:
Monday thru Friday: 11am-3pm
Saturday, Sunday: 11am-2pm
Monday, September 2: 9am-5pm

“This exhibition has obviously resonated with people, making it the best attended show in the WAG’s history and a fitting tribute for the WAG’s Centennial,” says Stephen Borys, WAG Director and CEO. “As of yesterday, over 40,000 people have seen the show and we are anticipating final attendance of 50,000. Borys adds that the exhibition has been successful on many levels. School tours sold out even before the show opened on May 11. Membership has increased 269% over the same period last year.

“We have worked hard to offer our visitors a complete experience with free audio tours, artist and curator talks, and guided tours,” says Borys. “A particular focus has been on families with Family Sunday, special kid-friendly exhibition labels that encourage children to view and discuss the work, and mini-tour booklets that guide families on their own thematic adventures. The interactive family zone is also proving very popular with children and adults alike.”

Art Eats, private tours of the exhibition that include dinner at Storm Bistro, sold out so quickly that two more were added to the original three—and also sold out. A sixth Art Eats will now take place on Wednesday, August 28. Art Eats tickets can be purchased online at wag.ca or by calling 204.789.1290. Exhibition tours will also take place every weekend until the end of August.

100 Masters: Only in Canada brings together some of the world’s greatest artists under one roof—Rembrandt, van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, Picasso, Warhol, to name just a few. Thirty Canadian and American galleries have lent their finest masterpieces to this exhibition celebrating the WAG’s Centennial as Canada’s oldest civic art gallery. From 1503 to 2009, the exhibition traces the development of art over the past 500 years. Admission to the show includes a free audio tour narrated by Jeff Douglas, host of CBC’s As It Happens, and a souvenir booklet.

BMO is the presenting sponsor of 100 Masters: Only in Canada.
