Birchwood BMW Art & Soul: One Hundred Raises Record Amounts for the WAG

Winnipeg, MB, February 28, 2013: The Winnipeg Art Gallery brought the house down on Saturday, February 23 with its annual fundraiser Birchwood BMW Art & Soul: One Hundred. Celebrating the most memorable moments, iconic personalities, and scandalous events of the past century, the costume event sold out for the third year in a row, grossing $86,000 for the WAG.

“We couldn’t be happier with Art & Soul 2013,” says Dr. Stephen Borys, WAG Executive Director. “The Gallery was at its best with over 1000 creative individuals all supporting Canada’s first civic art gallery. We are extremely grateful to the Art & Soul 2013 Committee who worked with staff to deliver an outstanding event that will help to define our Centennial year.”

Birchwood BMW Art & Soul: One Hundred featured innovative and interactive experiences on all four levels of the Gallery, including live performance, access to art exhibitions, BMW luxury exhibits, an EQ3 modernist lounge, and for the first time ever, an online auction. The amazing décor reflected different eras from the past 100 years, starting with a silent movie lounge and dazzling early 20th century cityscape on the main floor, leading to an irresistible modern Mezzanine, a sparkling disco in the Skylight Lounge (complete with a Twister game built into the dance floor), and finally a high energy contemporary house party on the penthouse level. Guests danced the night away to old and new favourites played by Cash Grab, DJ Hunnicutt, DJ Hipnotic, DJ Co-Op, André Bisseck, Oxide, and Dave Rad.

“A big thank you to our generous sponsors and auction donors, without whom Art & Soul would not be possible,” states Birchwood BMW Art & Soul: One Hundred Co-Chair Jennifer Nixon. “The tireless efforts of the Committee and WAG staff were also integral to making this fundraiser such a success. Not only did we throw the party of the year, we raised significant funds for the WAG, benefitting the whole community.”

The 2013 Art & Soul: One Hundred Committee consisted of Chad Falk (Co-Chair), Paulo Fernandes (Co-Chair), Jennifer Nixon (Co-Chair), Eric Au, Lana Bakun, Jenna Boholij, Kayla Dickin, James Eichele, David Lewis, Dan Lussier, Alan McGreevy, Catherine Maksymiuk, Jacques de Muelenaere, Kevin Parsons, Johnny Picklyk, Jessica Rempel, Karly Sullivan, and Laura Wittig.
