Help the WAG Celebrate Its 100th Birthday

The Winnipeg Art Gallery is having a birthday. And if you are having a birthday, particularly your 100th, you want to celebrate—and you want your friends to celebrate with you! So come down to the WAG’s birthday party from 11am to 6pm on Saturday, September 29 for a free family fun day.

There will be so much to see and do inside and outside the Gallery. Magician Brian Glow and children’s entertainer Al Simmons. Art workshops on block printmaking, drawing and painting, and creating your own slime! Face painting and games on the rooftop. Clowns, jugglers, and stilt walkers. An artist village on Colony Street. Birthday cupcakes and balloons. Food vendors. Interactive exhibition tours.

And THE 100-YEAR SKIP-OFF—100 people skipping with 100 ropes 100 skips at the same time (3:30pm on Memorial Boulevard.)

“We are so excited about reaching this milestone achievement and we invite the entire city of Winnipeg to come and celebrate with us,” says WAG Art Educator Rachel Baerg.  “The streets around the Gallery will be closed off and there will be fun and excitement everywhere. You won’t see a party like this for another 100 years!”

The birthday party will be followed by Nuit Blanche, an all-night celebration of the arts, running from 6pm, Saturday, September 29 through to 6am, Sunday, September 30. (see separate release)
