WAG’s José Koes Receives Outstanding Volunteer Award

The Winnipeg Art Gallery is pleased to announce that José Koes was the recipient of the Winnipeg Art Council’s 2012 Making a Difference—Outstanding Volunteer Award, handed out this morning at the Mayor’s Luncheon for the Arts.

For thirty years Koes has been a dedicated volunteer at the WAG, coordinating numerous successful events that have raised thousands of dollars for art education, exhibitions, acquisitions, and art education. She has served as President of the Volunteer Committee to the WAG, Manager of Art Rental & Sales, Member of the WAG Foundation and Development Committees, Chair of Travel Tours and House Tours, as well as Chair of various other fundraising events. At present, José is Secretary of the WAG Foundation, and serves on the Executive Committee for the WAG’s Centennial Ball, having been a member of the organizing committee for the Gallery’s 100th anniversary for over two years.

“José’s positive attitude is infectious, and her leadership skills are exemplary,” says WAG Executive Director Stephen Borys. “Her contributions have had an impact on numerous departments and programs offered by the Gallery. José is always promoting Manitoba artists and is a friend to many, as a patron, attending their shows, singing their praises and supporting their work at exhibitions at the WAG or in our Gallery Shop.”

Borys adds, “At the WAG we take the responsibility for the development, celebration, and sustaining of the visual arts in our community very seriously, and we could not do it without the dedication and commitment of volunteer leaders and arts champions like José.”
