CRAFTED Celebrates its 10th year with Local and Northern Artists

CRAFTED: Show + Sale Marks 10-year milestone and Kicks off with a Fashion Show

Winnipeg, Manitoba, October 24, 2024: The Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG)-Qaumajuq is proud to announce the 10th annual CRAFTED Show + Sale, taking place November 8-10, with a special Fashion Show on November 6. The annual celebration of fashion and craft takes over our exhibition galleries in a unique event that showcases works from artists and designers from Manitoba, Nunavut, Northwest Territories, and Nunavik.

CRAFTED: A Fashion Show will take place on November 6 with a runway weaving through the galleries featuring over 200 pieces, plus a living lookbook that allows up-close access to the accessory designs featured on the runway. Prior to the runway show, starting at 6pm, event attendees can wander through the Living Lookbook and browse the clothing, jewellery, accessories, and more made by CRAFTED artists. Be among the first to see some of the works that will be made available at the Show + Sale, while engaging with the artists who made them.

CRAFTED: Show + Sale will be held throughout the galleries from November 8-10 and host over 100 artists from 30 communities selling handmade items, just in time for the holidays. Works span textiles, glass, wood, metal, clay, and more, plus, your admission to the Show + Sale includes access to the galleries.

One of CRAFTED’s unique features is a philanthropic component, which changes every year. This year, we’re partnering with Alakan of Haley’s Handicrafts to offer a DIY Caribou Tufting Kit. Net proceeds from the sale of the kit will be donated to Rainbow Resource Centre, a non-profit organization that provides counselling, education, and programs to support to the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

— Sherri Van Went, Manager of Retail Operations & Partnerships

“Ten years ago, CRAFTED was born out of a vision to create an event where the most dedicated, skilled, and talented local craftspeople could showcase their work to an audience who truly understood and appreciated fine craft. Partnering with the WAG on CRAFTED was the perfect way to bring that dream to life, and it continues to exceed our expectations in every way. It’s truly become the envy of Craft Councils across the country, and we’re so proud to be celebrating its 10th anniversary.”

— Tammy Sutherland, Manitoba Craft Council

“We are very excited to partner once again with Manitoba Craft Council and WAG-Qaumajuq to bring a cohort of 12 Northwest Territories (NWT) fine craft artists to CRAFTED 2024. This vibrant market and the amazing community of Winnipeg continue to support northern artists with opportunity, generosity, and enthusiasm. CRAFTED not only has the potential to advance and inspire their careers, but also raise awareness of the quality of fine craft made in the NWT. We are so pleased to be a part of it again this year!”

— Johanna Tiemessen, Manager, NWT Arts Program, Government of the Northwest Territories

“Once again, Avataq Cultural Institute is proud of the Nunavik delegation, showcasing our very talented artists who have mastered their craft and sharing Nunavimmiut culture with CRAFTED visitors.”

— Andrée Anne Vien, Coordinator of Aumaaggiivik Nunavik Arts Secretariat

“It is very exciting to come to CRAFTED to sell Inuit art. You get to see so many wonderful pieces, and for us coming from Nunavut, it means a lot to be here and sell Inuit-made art. It really is so amazing to see clients that have so much interest in Inuit art!”
