ClayMaker: House Tea Lights

This cozy little tea light will brighten the dark winter days, and you can learn to build it in one session. Makes a great little planter for air plants or succulents too. Ceramic artist Crystal Nykoluk will guide you through the process. Just make it, glaze it, and voilà! We fire the work and you pick it up two weeks later.

MakerLab: Leather-Bound Journal with Debra Frances

Create your own unique 4” x 5” leather-bound journal. Learn how to bind a book using the long stitch, link stitch binding method, which dates back to the 4th century. This style of binding allows for all pages to lay completely flat, ideal for writing and sketching. Hand sewn construction makes it easy to remove old pages and add new ones, so you can refresh and renew the journal’s content.

Ceramic artist Crystal Nykoluk will guide you through creating two styles of necklaces out of clay.  Once you’ve perfected your shapes (cylinder and slab), you’ll use glaze techniques to adorn your clay leaving you with a unique piece of wearable art.  The two necklaces you create will be fired by us, attached to a stainless steel chain or leather cord, and will be available for pick up two weeks after the class.

MakerLab: Woven Wall Hangings with Le Petit Point

Using  a lap loom frame, you’ll create your own hand-woven wall hanging. Using various textures of wool and roving, you’ll learn how to warp your loom and weave using several techniques. The end result is a beautiful woven piece of art to hang in your home that plays with geometry, colour, and texture.

In this mixed-media class, you’ll be introduced to colour basics and complete exercises with value (lightness or darkness of colour), colour contrasts, and colour harmony. This course is useful for advanced artists too, as a refresher. View WAG’s current exhibition The 80s Image and get a sense of the decade’s sensibilities through the lens of colour while working with acrylic paint, collage, and various coloured drawing media.

Discover hand building, which includes slab building, slump molded forms, and throwing on the potter’s wheel. From basic thrown or hand-built forms, you’ll produce mugs, bowls, and platters. For students with little or no drawing experience, this introduction to the fundamental techniques and concepts of drawing will sharpen observational skills and build confidence. Pottery Drop in For Adults

For adults currently enrolled in our pottery classes, enjoy spending more time in the studio honing your skills. No instruction is provided; prior approval from your WAG instructor is required. No advance registration; payment is collected each week at the WAG Studio reception. Bring your own supplies. Use of clay is limited to one box per student, which is provided at the first class.
