5:00pm - 9:00pm
Begin by viewing a selection of remarkable calligraphy works from the Gallery’s collection before joining local calligrapher, Janet Murata for an engaging introduction to the art form. Discover the traditions, techniques, and cultural significance of calligraphy, then put pen to paper as you learn the basics through a hands-on workshop.
In the workshop, participants can contribute to a collaborative 15-foot paper scroll that will grow throughout the evening. Add a beautifully written character, word, phrase, or short quotation in the language or script of your choice, creating a collective work of art that celebrates the diversity and beauty of written expression.
The two workshop spaces are limited to 20 participants per session, and advance sign-up is required. Choose one of two workshop times:
Session 1: 6:45–7:30 pm
Session 2: 7:45–8:30 pm
Sign-up sheets will be available upon arrival.
Whether you’re picking up a calligraphy pen for the first time or looking to refine your skills, this is a unique opportunity to celebrate creativity, connect with others, and leave your mark on a shared work of art.
