In that case, the Associates of the WAG’s Home Tour transforms that curiosity into a hands-on experience. For one day only, on September 14, over 600 guests are invited to step inside some of the city’s most stunning residences in the Headingley area, where they will discover inspired interiors with architectural charm and unique stories.

You might not realize though, that this signature fundraiser takes almost a year of behind-the-scenes planning. Preparation begins 12 months ahead, starting with a seasoned, steady-handed chairperson and continuing with a dedicated committee divided into 10 specialized working groups. Each member contributes to keeping preparations on schedule and maintaining high morale.
Securing homes for the tour is one of the most challenging and rewarding tasks, says Esme Scarlett, Home Tour Chairperson.
“Some homeowners are easy to reach; others need a bit of old-fashioned charm and persistence. Sometimes, that means knocking on doors and personally inviting neighbours to join in. The community spirit that comes from these interactions creates the foundation for the event’s magic.”
Next involves a series of crucial details: designing event ‘passports’ (the tour tickets), promotional campaigns, collaborating with WAG-Qaumajuq staff to ensure everything aligns with its mission, and maintaining open communication with each homeowner as they prepare to host hundreds of guests.
When the event day arrives, excitement fills the air. House Captains and a dedicated team of 80-100 trained volunteers recruited by Pat McCullough, Volunteer Chair, take charge. “Volunteers welcome visitors, guide the experience, and ensure each home remains protected and respected,” she says.

Ultimately, satisfaction shines through in homeowners, volunteers, and guests alike. The Home Tour becomes more than just an open house; it’s a celebration of community, creativity, and raising funds for WAG-Qaumajuq, as well as the excitement of opening doors.

We hope you enjoy your visit to WAG-Qaumajuq! See our tips for visiting.
Hi,
Congratulations on this initiative. I am interested in participating, but I have a few questions:
i- How many houses can I visit and how much time can I spend in each one?
ii- How do I select the house I want to visit?
iii- Is transportation included in the ticket price?
Hi Alexis – thanks for your interest in the Home Tour! Ticketholders are granted one-time entry into all five homes and are encouraged to visit each during the hours of 10am-4pm on September 14. As this is a self-guided tour, transportation is not included in the ticket price. Directions are provided after purchasing a ticket. If you have any further questions, please reach out to Ella at eejiogu@wag.ca. Thank you!
