WAG Expands Spring Break Art Camps for Kids and Teens

Winnipeg, Manitoba, January 25, 2016: The Winnipeg Art Gallery is building on the success of its Spring Break Art Camp for Kids to include a program designed for teens. Whether for the whole week or just one day, kids aged 6-12 will get creative with a different theme every day. The new week-long camp for ages 13-18 focuses on the rich tradition of mural painting.

“Spring Break Art Camp gives children and now teens a wonderful opportunity to explore a variety of art and artmaking concepts,” states Rachel Baerg, WAG Head of Education. “It’s fun, hands on, and a great way to make new friends!”

Camp for kids includes: Tuesday - Selfie Sticks, find inspiration in the galleries before creating your own mixed-media selfie; Wednesday - BIG, discover how artists play with size and scale and make a larger-than-life sculpture with unusual materials; Thursday - Signs of Spring, find signs of spring in and around the art gallery and create an homage to the season; Friday - Shadow Play, explore ways in which artists use shadows and light to enrich your own shadow-based work. WAG members: $45 per day/Non-members $50 per day.

In Spring Break Art Camp for Teens: Mural Madness, teens will work with local mural master Michael St. Hilaire to paint a mural on the walls of the WAG Studio building and learn all about mural art. WAG members: $180 per week/Non-members $200 per week.

Camps run Tuesday, March 29 to Friday, April 1. Drop off is at 8:30am, program runs from 9:00 am-4:00 pm, pick-up by 5pm.

Camp registration is now open. Visit wag.ca/studio or call 204.789.1766 to sign up. Many camps sell out quickly - register early to reserve spots.
