From Terrariums to Jewellery Jam: WAG DIY Nights

Winnipeg, Manitoba, January 20, 2016: The Winnipeg Art Gallery is offering fun and creative workshops that bring out your inner DIY. Register in advance for MakerLab, a new series led by local crafters, makers, and artisans, with quality supplies included. Feeling more spontaneous? Drop in to OpenMake with artist Erika Hanneson. Both MakerLab and OpenMake are offered monthly at WAG Studio.

“Each month, WAG Studio is offering a great line-up of hands-on events to inspire the creative spirit,” states Rachel Baerg, WAG Head of Education. “All skill levels are welcome, so get a group of friends together for a fun night out!”

The February 11 MakerLab/OpenMake comes just in time for Valentine’s Day with handmade gifts for your sweetie. Back by popular demand, make a stunning terrarium at the MakerLab with Candace Fempel of Department of Floristry; while OpenMake: Jewellery Jam will show you how to spell out a message in Morse Code on a colourful bead bracelet.

Looking ahead to March, stop by for OpenMake: Knit Night on the 8th. Learn to knit without needles! Use your arms and fingers to create whatever takes your fancy. Bring your own wool or purchase it at the workshop. Mark the March 16 and 21 MakerLabs on your calendar and say hello to fresh skin. Milena Placentile of Just the Goods will show you how to create a refreshing trio of wholesome, healthy body care products.

MakerLab is recommended for ages 16 and up. Workshops run 7-9pm. Sign up today at $75 per person; $70 for WAG members.

OpenMake is designed for ages 8 and up. This drop-in series is offered 7-9:30pm for $10 per person. See for more details.
