WAG Celebrates Around the Clock with Culture Days and Nuit Blanche Winnipeg

Winnipeg, Manitoba, September 18, 2015: The Winnipeg Art Gallery is opening its doors for Culture Days and Nuit Blanche Winnipeg on Saturday, September 26. Galleries 1-6 will be free for all from 11am-5pm for the national Culture Days event. The Gallery will re-open from 6pm-3am for Nuit Blanche Winnipeg, a free, all-night celebration of the arts with music, dance, film, and access to most of the WAG’s galleries, including NGC@WAG: Ron Mueck, American Abstraction, and more.

“Nuit Blanche Winnipeg brings an incredible vibe and energy to the city and the WAG,” comments WAG Director & CEO Dr. Stephen Borys. “We are pleased to start the celebration a little earlier this year for Culture Days, giving the community even more opportunity to experience. The WAG is once again hosting a fantastic line up, including contemporary artist Ron Mueck’s gigantic baby sculpture.”

The WAG hosts Nuit Blanche like no other venue in the city. Thousands of party-goers fill the building creating an amazing energy fed by outstanding art, thumping electronic beats and creative programming that sets the bar high for a fun evening out on the town.

Nuit Blanche Winnipeg Carpe Noctum at the WAG includes MEMETIC’s world fusion sounds mixing samples of ancient instruments and modern electronic beats to create a dance party with Persian, Turkish, Mediterranean, and Egyptian elements. Groove to the rooftop vibe alongside projections of ancient temples, statues, and landscapes, living large on the walls of the WAG!

A late night film festival with cinematic experts George Toles and Jonah Corne will explore Greco-Roman themed shorts in celebration of the WAG’s historic Olympus: The Greco-Roman Collections of Berlin exhibition.

Join jewelry artists Lily and Sonja Rosenberg (Manitoba Crafts Council) to create your own amazing piece of bling at the jewellery workshop.

Visit the Minecraft Digital Lounge and observe the smash-hit game in action, or sign up to help build a virtual Olympus-inspired world.

Admission to Olympus is being offered at a special rate of $10 or free for WAG members on Saturday, September 26 (11am-5pm, 6pm-3am). Not a WAG member? Sign up at wag.ca/membership. Members will be asked to show their card at the door.
