WAG’s Gallery Ball Delights the Senses in Support of Kids Programs

The Winnipeg Art Gallery is pleased to announce exciting new plans for this year’s Gallery Ball, happening on Saturday, October 18. As Winnipeg’s black-tie event of the season, the Ball raises funds and awareness of the WAG’s kids programs.

“Each year thousands of young people in Manitoba enjoy the WAG’s kids programs that share the joys of creativity and encourage a love for the arts,” says WAG Director & CEO Dr. Stephen Borys. “Through art classes, school visits, Family Sundays, Summer Art Camps, and more, kids have the chance to experience all that art has to offer. Their horizons broaden as they learn to see the world from new perspectives. It’s fantastic to think that the money raised from just one Gallery Ball ticket enables 43 kids to visit the WAG!”

Gallery Ball guests will once again enjoy the rare experience of dining in the permanent collection galleries, which will be complemented by art-inspired floral designs created by the city’s top florists. Paired with live entertainment, delectable cuisine, and a dance floor (new this year), Gallery Ball attendees will delight in a dream-like atmosphere, not unlike the Salvador Dali paintings that will be on view in the Masterworks from the Beaverbrook Art Gallery exhibition.

With only 400 tickets available, the Gallery Ball will be shared further into the community via another new initiative for 2014: the launch of an official Gallery Ball blog correspondent, a.k.a. Downtown Peggy. Over the coming months, Peggy will reveal a behind-the-scenes look at what makes the event so unique, and give updates on Gallery Ball plans. Downtown Peggy's posts are being featured on galleryball.wag.ca.

“We sincerely thank our Gallery Ball sponsors and auction donors – in particular our Presenting Sponsor, 1832 Asset Management – whose generosity makes the event possible,” says David Carr, Co-Chair of the 2014 Gallery Ball Committee. “There’s a reason why the Gallery Ball is known as Manitoba’s top auction, and when it benefits such a great cause, it’s a win-win for the community. Thanks to our dedicated volunteer committee and the tireless WAG staff, this year’s Gallery Ball will no doubt be another big success.”

Tickets are $300 each or $3,500 for a corporate table of eight, available at galleryball.wag.ca or the WAG front desk (300 Memorial Boulevard), by calling 204.789.1765, or emailing events@wag.ca. For the latest updates, check out #galleryball on Twitter.
