Catherine Maksymiuk to Lead WAG Media and Marketing Team

The Winnipeg Art Gallery is pleased to announce Catherine Maksymiuk as the new manager of media and marketing. She begins her position Thursday, June 5.

Maksymiuk served as interim manager of communications and marketing at the WAG from 2012-13 and she chaired the History committee for the Gallery’s Centennial year. Previously, she was involved as a committee member for Nuit Blanche and Art & Soul, and she is currently co-chair of the 2014 Gallery Ball committee.

“Catherine is the consummate cultural strategist and advocate. She understands the critical role the arts play in communities today, and she knows how to get the message out there— and to listen” comments WAG Director & CEO Dr. Stephen Borys. “She was here to lead the marketing plan for the award-winning 100 Masters exhibition, and she has been a dedicated volunteer and committee leader over the last few years.”

“The WAG has several blockbuster shows on the horizon and Catherine’s knowledge of the WAG and the Winnipeg arts community combined with her media and marketing skills will not only benefit the WAG but, more importantly, will enrich community engagement. I can’t think of a more qualified individual to lead our media and marketing department right now,” continues Borys.

Maksymiuk’s arts community work includes Culture Days Manitoba (communications and event coordinator, 2011 and special events coordinator, 2010), and Freeze Frame International Film Festival for Kids (communications coordinator, 2011).

“Like so many others, my association with the WAG began with my visits as a child,” says Maksymiuk. “I am absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Dr. Borys and his team again, and look forward to continuing to engage the community with all the WAG has to offer. Dali Up Close and Masterworks from the Beaverbrook Art Gallery are coming in September…Manitoba is in for a treat!”

An alumnus of the University of Manitoba, Catherine received her bachelor’s of commerce (honours) in 2006 and returned to receive her master’s degree in science (marketing) in 2009. She comes to the WAG from the University of Manitoba where she serves as client relations coordinator to students. Maksymiuk replaces Debra Fehr who vacated the position of manager, communications and marketing in late April.
