Winnipeg Art Gallery Announces New Manager of Communications and Marketing

WINNIPEG, MB., July 28, 2009: The Winnipeg Art Gallery announces the appointment of Debra Fehr as the new Manager of Communications and Marketing effective today.

“This is an exciting time for the WAG as we move into full planning mode for our centenary in 2012,” says Director Dr. Stephen Borys. “As the new Manager of Communications and Marketing, Ms. Fehr will be responsible for developing and executing the campaign celebrating this important milestone. We feel the skills she brings to the WAG are perfectly suited to the task ahead.”

A graduate of the University of Manitoba, Fehr has occupied the position of Director of Marketing and Communications at Folklorama for the past five years.

“I am thrilled to be joining the WAG team,” says Fehr. “I believe my prior experience with Folklorama’s mission of celebrating diversity will translate well into the celebration of visual art forms. Since I was a child seated with my mom and sisters around our dinner table painting landscapes, art has always been an important part of my life, bringing new perspectives and ways to experience the world. It's exciting to join an organization that not only preserves and celebrates the visual arts, but is also Manitoba’s premier gallery and a leading art institute in North America.”
Established in 1912, The Winnipeg Art Gallery is the oldest civic gallery in Canada, and for more than 90 years has been one of Manitoba’s leading arts institutions, committed to encouraging and supporting Manitoba artists. The Gallery currently has almost 24,000 works in its collection, ranging from 16th century tapestries to 21st century videos.
