Barbershop Quartet to Entertain WAG Norman Rockwell Visitors

Barbershop quartet Tempo will be on hand to entertain visitors at the Winnipeg Art Gallery’s final weekend of the exhibition American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell. They will give performances at 11am, 2pm, and 4pm on Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27.

“We are anticipating big crowds for the final weekend of this very popular exhibition and this will probably entail lineups,” says WAG Executive Director Stephen Borys. “We always want to make our visitor experience as enjoyable as possible and providing entertainment is one way of doing it.”

Tempo, the 2010 Quartet of the Year, often sing the anthems at Goldeyes and Bomber games, and perform at events all over the city. They consists of two former Winnipeg Blue Bombers—Ron LaTourelle and Ted Mikliechuk—along with Gordon Sargent and Jim Gilroy.

Tempo is part of The Golden Cordsmen, one of Winnipeg’s most honoured barbershop choruses who have been entertaining a capella since 1948. The 60-strong Cordsmen’s repertoire covers Broadway hits, songs from the 50s, old standards, and Doo Wop, all done in a distinctive barbershop style.
