The WAG Goes Fringe

The Winnipeg Art Gallery is pleased to announce it will be a key venue for the upcoming 25th anniversary Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival, which takes place July 18-29, 2012.

Every year, the Winnipeg Fringe showcases over 150 companies from all over the world, presenting exciting independent theatre to local audiences. The Winnipeg Fringe kicks off its 25th year today with the annual Indoor Performer Lottery, followed by Retro Reading Series, featuring some of the most memorable Fringe plays from the past 24 years.

“We’re very happy to have the WAG on board as we celebrate 25 years of Winnipeg Fringe,” Fringe Executive Producer Chuck McEwen says. “Because of the incredible growth in attendance over the past three years, we felt we could add another full venue to the festival for our 25th anniversary. We wanted to find the best possible space for the performers and the WAG’s Muriel Richardson Auditorium is a great, professionally-equipped venue in downtown Winnipeg.”

“The WAG has hosted countless performers over the years and admires the artistic experimentation that the Winnipeg Fringe Festival inspires,” says Director Stephen Borys. “It seems very fitting that we should welcome the Fringe during their 25th anniversary, given the Gallery’s upcoming Centennial anniversary, which launches September 29, 2012.” In an effort to engage a growing public with the power of art in our lives, the WAG is planning an unforgettable lineup of centennial exhibitions, programs and events to be announced in the New Year.
