Studio Art Instructor Contracts Available

Reporting to the Studio Coordinator, Studio Program Art Instructors are contracted to provide an educational experience by conducting weekly art classes for children, teens, and/or adults. This includes designing, organizing age and subject appropriate programming, facilitating classes, and providing a high-quality, professional, and fun experience for all art class participants.

This is a term contract with most adult classes being held weekday evenings, and child/teen classes being held on weekend morning and afternoons for a contracted period of time.

Rate of Pay: Between $480-$800 per 10-week contract

Schedule: Range from 1-2.5 hrs a week per class

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan course content in consultation with the Studio Coordinator
  • Prepare a course outline which includes a supply list
  • Create an environment that is conducive to learning about the elements and principles of visual communication, while encouraging creative expression
  • Manage classroom activities and keep a written record of students’ attendance
  • Consult with Studio Technicians regarding supply requests, kiln firings and other related matters
  • Orient students and volunteers to safety and fire procedures and the safe handling of all materials used in the course
  • Supervise clean-up of the studio
  • Represent the WAG-Qaumajuq’s Studio Programs Department to the public in a professional manner
  • Supervise volunteer (if applicable)
  • Book models for class from the current studio model list (if applicable)
  • Install children’s artwork in the Through the Eyes of a Child gallery (if applicable)
  • Ongoing performance expectations relating to equity and anti-racism, including ongoing education, confrontation of personal biases, application of the anti-racism policy and equitable decision-making.

Job Requirements

  • Fine Arts Degree or Diploma, or the equivalent in relevant experience with a specialty in visual arts
  • Previous instructional experience
  • Expertise in one or more mediums; drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, digital photography (Lightroom and Photoshop), animation (FlipaClip or Stop Motion Studio), digital drawing (Procreate) or pottery.
  • Current Child Abuse Registry Check

Additional Assets

  • Working knowledge of an Indigenous language and/or French
  • Current First Aid certification
