Engagement Officer (job-share)

Reporting to the Engagement Supervisor, this job-share position is responsible for implementing strategies, assignments and projects that grow WAG audiences through media relations and promotional activities. In particular, the Engagement Officer will curate the public image of the organization through sustained media coverage and outreach communications in the lead-up to the landmark opening of the Inuit Art Centre in 2021 and throughout its inaugural year.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write and distribute all media advisories and releases, and prepare materials for media events
  • Maintain good relationships with media and facilitate interviews and articles
  • Maintain media image download site and post releases online
  • Write speaking notes for WAG representatives
  • Write, edit, and proof copy for external and internal audiences
  • Assist in producing special advertising buys
  • Supervise visits from media outlets, camera crews and photographers
  • Assist with staffing Gallery events as required
  • Act as a Gallery representative in matters relating to exhibition and program promotion
  • Occasional event photography and videography
  • Assist with the production of reports and presentations
  • Respond to visitor feedback
  • Coordinate in-kind donation requests
  • Other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Communications or public relations degree or equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum two years direct experience in media relations
  • Ability to form interpersonal connections with ease and professionalism
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for developing and maintaining relationships
  • Ability to work independently using discretion and diplomacy under pressure

ASSETS

  • Understanding the not-for-profit arts community
  • Photography, videography, and editing skills
  • Background working with BIPOC communities
  • Working knowledge of an Indigenous language and/or French
  • Willingness to temporarily work full-time hours to cover leave or vacation of other job-share participant when required
