Collections Inventory Assistant (Part Time)

Reporting to the Collections Management team, the Collections Inventory Assistants are tasked with assisting with the ongoing inventory and maintenance of the WAG-Qaumajuq’s collection, providing a unique and challenging look into gallery collections.

We are hiring for one position,
• $16/hr
• 640 hours until March 31, 2022

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Attend an initial orientation to the WAG staff, facilities, and the WAG’s Inuit Art Collection
  • Receive training in art handling and safety, and museum best practices
  • Become familiar with the WAG’s collections database, for research and updating
  • Learn the locations for the storage of the collection, and update the location of each work as needed – maintain and augment artwork records, both physical and digital
  • Assist with administrative tasks, such as minor photo editing and research
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Completion of at least one year of university or college, in art history, cultural studies, or a related field of study
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organization
  • Able to physically lift up to 30 lbs
  • Ability to handle delicate items
  • Capable of working independently, and as part of a two-person team
  • Under 30 years of age and returning to school on a full-time basis in fall 2021
  • Experience working with galleries or museums is an asset
  • Knowledge of, and interest in, the visual arts is an asset
